TEKAKWITHA CONFERENCE (USA)

On October 20th at 7:00 pm, the eve of the canonization, a prayer vigil was held at the Saint Francis Xavier Mission Church in Kahnawake. On October 21st, Pope Benedict XVI in Rome canonized Kateri Tekakwitha. To mark this special occasion, everyone was invited to come and watch the rebroadcast of the canonization at 9 a.m. at the Kateri School facing Saint Francis Xavier Mission in Kahnawake. It is in this Church that the remains of Saint Kateri, the lily of the Mohawks, are entombed. A Eucharistic celebration at 10:30 am was presided by Msgr. Jacques Berthelet, C.S.V., bishop emeritus of Saint-Jean-Longueuil. A procession to the tomb of Kateri was held afterward within the church and a period of adoration followed until 5 p.m.

Salt+Light Catholic TV from Toronto completed a new 60-minute DVD about Kateri (with over 90 minutes of extras). They have been quite active filming the Mission Church, Native celebrations and the shrines in Fonda and Ossernenon/Auriesville in the United States. It was shown to the Pope and the Roman Curia on October 20th and was a World Television Premiere exclusively broadcast on October 21st, 8PM (ET) on Cable-TV Channel 242 on Videotron.. It was repeated several times after the canonization.

Prayer of thanksgiving for Kateri Tekakwitha

God our Father,
Whom Kateri Tekakwitha liked to call the Great Spirit,
We thank you for having given us this young woman as a model of Christian life.
Despite her frailness and her community’s resistance,
she bore witness to the presence of Christ.
With her companions, she drew close to the elderly and to the sick.
Every day, she saw in nature a reflection of your own glory and beauty.
Grant that by her intercession we may always be close to you,
more sensitive to the needs of those around us,
and more respectful of creation.
With her, we shall strive to discover what pleases you
and endeavour to accomplish it until that day you call us back to you.

Amen!

Prayer to Saint Kateri Tekakwitha

Saint Kateri Tekakwitha, our elder sister in the Lord,
discreetly, you watch over us;
May your love for Jesus and Mary inspire in us words and deeds of friendship,
of forgiveness and of reconciliation.
Pray that God will give us the courage,
the boldness and the strength to build a world of justice and peace
among ourselves and among all nations.
Help us, as you did, to encounter the Creator God present in the very depths of nature,
and so become witnesses of Life.
With you, we praise the Father, the Son and the Spirit.

Amen.

Prayer to Saint Kateri Tekakwitha

O Saint Kateri, “Lily of the Mohawks”,
your love for Jesus, so strong, so steadfast, grant that we may become like you.
Your short and painful life showed us your strength and humility.
Grant that we may become forever humble like you.
Like the bright and shining stars at night,
we pray that your light may forever shine down upon us,
giving light, hope, peacefulness and serenity in our darkest moments.
Fill our hearts, Saint Kateri Tekakwitha with your same love of Jesus
and grant us your strength and courage to become one like you in Heaven. Amen.
